India Pale Ale Day and IPA Day (India Pale Ale Beer)

India Pale Ale (IPA) Day, celebrated on the first Thursday of August, honors the history, culture, and craft of IPA beers. Originating in the late 18th century, IPAs were brewed with higher alcohol content and more hops to preserve them during long sea voyages from England to India. Today, IPA Day is a global event that brings together beer enthusiasts, breweries, and pubs to enjoy and celebrate this popular style.

Can-It Forward Day

International Can-It Forward Day, celebrated annually on August 1st, is a flavorful and hands-on holiday that encourages people to preserve fresh food through home canning—and share the results with others. Whether you’re sealing jars of jam, pickles, salsa, or chutney, this day is all about embracing the art of food preservation and the joy of giving. The holiday was founded in 2011 by Jarden Home Brands, the makers of Ball canning jars 1. Their goal was to help people feel confident about preserving food at home and to promote sustainable, seasonal eating. It also highlights the importance of reducing food waste by giving fresh produce a longer shelf life. Canning itself dates back to 1809, when French confectioner Nicolas Appert discovered that food cooked and sealed in jars wouldn’t spoil. This method evolved over time, becoming a vital way to store food for military use, household convenience, and now, home gardening and DIY enthusiasts.
