Hug a Sheep Day
Hug a Sheep Day is a heartwarming celebration held every year on the last Saturday of October. A day to appreciate sheep for their contributions—wool, milk, meat, and companionship—and to promote kindness and animal welfare. Encourages people to connect with nature, learn about sheep, and show affection to these gentle creatures. Started in the mid-1990s by the “Crazy Sheep Lady” of Equinox Farms as a tribute to her first sheep, Punkin, rescued in 1992 from the Bluegrass Stockyards. After Punkin passed away, she created this day to honor his memory and spread love to all sheep. What began as a small farm tradition has grown into an international event, with farms worldwide opening their gates for visitors.
