Friday Fish Fry Day

Friday Fish Fry Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday of Lent. It’s a day to bring together family and friends to enjoy fish fries and support local restaurants. The tradition of eating fish on Fridays originated with the Catholic practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays. In Wisconsin, the tradition began because of the large number of German, Polish, and other Catholic settlers who couldn’t eat meat on Fridays. The fish fry became a popular alternative because of the state’s many lakes.
