Argentina Carnival and Carnival Monday
Argentina’s Carnival (Carnaval) is a nationwide festival celebrated on the days preceding Ash Wednesday, marking the start of Lent in the Christian calendar. The two key public holidays are: Lunes de Carnaval (Carnival Monday) and Martes de Carnaval (Carnival Tuesday). These days are national holidays throughout Argentina. The festival features vibrant parades, music, dancing, water celebrations, and traditional neighborhood performances known as murgas and comparsas. The most extravagant festivities occur in Gualeguaychú, where weekend parades run from January through March, making it the country’s longest carnival celebration.
